Allowing Application Servers to Relay in Exchange 2010

We had a problem today with a client who’s application servers could not send email since upgrading to Exchange 2010.

It is a fairly simple fix and the easiest way is to allocate another IP address to the Exchange Server and then create a new Receive Connector allowing relay but only from the specific internal IP addresses of the application server.

1.From the Exchange Management Console > Server Configuration > Hub Transport > New Receive Connector.

Retirement of Windows XP and what it means for security

Experts are expecting the amount of malicious attacks directed at Windows XP to drop off for the remainder of this year and early next as the hackers will probably wait until it is officially retired, and therefore no longer receiving security patches or updates, before they launch any attacks.

If you are still relying on Windows XP for your business you should seriously think about upgrading to at least Windows 7 prior to April 8th 2014.

Exchange 2010 and Entourage on Mac – User can’t send or receive email

Had a problem today with a client who couldn’t send or receive email on his Mac since the upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2010.

Traced the problem to a permission that had been incorrectly copied across.

You need to ensure that under ‘Manage Send As’ permissions that NT AUTHORITY/SELF is applied and it will work fine.
